Power of Sex is the Hot Topic

All right! Here’s the deal! You better be at this week’s Overflo Student Nite. Why? ‘Cause I believe it has the opportunity to be life changing. This Thursday, February 11 at 6:45pm, we begin a brand new series entitled, Power of Sex. This series tackles the difficult and often misrepresented topic of sex. We’ll explore not just how you are assaulted by sexual messages, but how the choices you make will shape your entire lives. While this series addresses the consequences of bad decisions, it is focused around encouraging and teaching you how to make the right decisions – and offering the forgiveness of an almighty God when things don’t go as planned. The 6 week series dates are February 11, 18, 25 & March 4, 11, 18.

As an added bonus to this series, 727 LIVE will doing a two week Power of Sex series in our small groups. They begin this Saturday, February 13. Make sure you are a part of that too. And to add some fun to that, we’re heading to Steak ‘N Shake afterwards. We’ll get you the ride there but have your parents pick you up from there around 9:30. Bring a few bucks too ‘cause money doesn’t grow on trees around here…haha!

Well, invite a friend out this week (and yes, I’m giving away extra points for that for the Mission Trip). Looking forward to see you Thursday!

You a Super Hero?

Come be a part of the Nite of the Super Hero at Overflo Student Nite this Thursday, February 4 at 6:45pm. We’re asking everyone to dress up in your favorite super hero outfit. There’s gonna be prizes awarded to best dressed. Now dress appropriately (like don’t look exactly like super woman.. you’ll need a little more clothes on than her)! If you don’t have an outfit, please still come and help us judge!

We’ll also be wrapping up our “Breaking Free” series with the thought of laziness. Now how does laziness and super hero nite fit together? Come and find out! Invite a friend!

Also, as a reminder, there will be NO! 727 LIVE this Saturday, February 6 as we have a week off between series. Make sure you pencil in our new series “The Power of Sex” that begins Saturday, February 13.

The Final Monday of January

4 really quick things…

1. Today is the deadline to sign up for BigStuf 2010 in Panama City Beach on July 12 through 16! If you have not signed up and want to go, you better email me right now!

2. Hope to see you at OSN this Thursday night! We’ll continue in our new series “Breaking Free”. Invite a friend out. It could change their life.

3. This coming Saturday, January 30 is the final week of the 727 LIVE series “Building Wise Choices in 2010.” Even if you haven’t been to the other 3 nights, still feel free to join in!

4. Next Thursday night, February 4 is the “Nite of the Super Hero” at Overflo Student Nite. So get a really cool idea for your wardrobe (maybe look like Superman) and dress up with your friends. Gonna award prizes for the best dressed. Now make sure you dress appropriately (like you shouldn’t probably come looking exactly how Superwoman dressed…). Anyways, it’s gonna be a fun night!

A Monday Reminder

BigStuf reduction & deadline…  Did you hear that we’ve dropped the price from $359 to now only $309 for BigStuf?  So get registered today because next Monday, January 25 is the last day to get registered for BigStuf 2010!  All you need to do is turn in a $59 non-refundable deposit by Monday and registered at that price!  Just see me or feel free to contact Sandra Petrin at 445-5440 and we’ll answer the questions you have!  I’m looking forward to BigStuf on July 12-16 in Panama City Beach. Breaking Free this Thursday…  We begin a brand new series this Thursday at OSN (um, Overfo Student Nites)!  Here’s the teaser for “Breaking Free”…. There’s a dark side to everyone that is usually uncomfortable to talk about. But denying the real issues like anger, envy, and laziness don’t lead to a healthy life. And for students who are discovering a new host of emotions, these can be especially tough to handle. In this 3-week OSN series, we’ll provide practical and easy-to-implement lessons that address the stuff we wish we didn’t feel. But when handled biblically, you will be stronger spiritually and more prepared to do the right thing.  We’ll cover the following topics… 
Anger — The fire that rages within
Envy — The lies that steal joy
Laziness — The curse that slowly destroys

Mission Trip Twenty Ten  You heard about this?  3 male students and 3 female students will join with Laura and me for a 7 day mission trip to Nashville, Tennessee on August 3 through August 9. MT2010 will include a stop thru in Atlanta which will include a Braves game. We’ll head onto Nashville where we will serve alongside of three different ministries in the community over 5 days.  Three of those days, we will work alongside of a brand new church plant, Axis Church in downtown Nashville. The evenings will allow us some free time that will include touring some greater Nashville landmarks.  Best part about it….it is totally free!  All you will need is a little spending money!  All students will be given points for the following weekly events:
   – Attendance to Overflo Student Nites ►5 points
   – Attendance to 727 LIVE ►10 points
   – Scripture memorization from 727 material ►8 points
   – Attendance at FCA meetings at school ►8 points
   – Weekend volunteering at Parkview ►10 points
   – Wednesday volunteering at PKU ►10 points
All points will be accumulated from January 9 through June 24. Top three males and top three females will be announced on Thursday, June 24 at Overflo Student Nite.

Well, it’s been awhile since the last blog.  So I just added an New Year’s Resolution… more blogs!  Now there is a lot happening around Overflo, but before you get ahead of yourself, just make sure you are involved in the “Two for Twenty Ten.”  Here they are….and trust me, they’ll get your year started on the right track…

This Is All That’s Left….

Overflo Student Nites and 727 LIVE have ended for 2009!  We’ve wrapped up another great year. Now there’s only one thing left…

So make plans to meet at the church and then we’ll head that way.  We’ll be back at 10:30pm. No cost..it’s free…except for the Christmas presents you need to buy!

The Final Week of 2009

Okay, it is not really because there is still 3 more weeks in December.  However, it is the final week of 2009 for Overflo Student Nites as well as 727 LIVE!  So I want you to come on out this Thursday as we wrap things up for 2009. Gonna be teaching on a wild topic…”Coming home and telling your parents you’re pregnant and you’re a virgin…Mary did!”  Looking forward to teaching on a different angle of the Christmas story.  Got some games planned as well as some Christmas music too.  Bring a friend!

We’ll also be wrapping up 727 LIVE with week #2 of “Prayed Up?”.  If you missed last week, still come on out for a time of learning with your friends.

Cancel Everything!

Cancel everything else (besides school) to be here this Thursday night at Overflo’s Christmas Party w/ the Fam!  Make sure you grab your family to and bring them along.  Here’s some good reasons to be here…

1.Christmas is in full gear so we’re decorating for the occasion.  All Overflo adult volunteers are decorating the tables (yep, we’ll be sitting at tables).  That should be interesting.  I can’t wait to see what Patrick or Andy come up with!

2.Great prizes are gonna be given away!  Already have 4 Starbucks gift cards and 5 Casting Crown CD’s so far.  Thinking about some other things too!

3. Music is gonna be good by the FLO Band.  Think they may be doing a brand new song too.

4. The games will provide some really good laughs too.  May have to bring a parent or two up on stage again.

5. We’ll be telling you about the next series, the next few upcoming activities, the next themed night, and an added bonus for BigStuf 2010.

6. Plus…there’s gonna be a photographer on hand to snap a Christmas portrait.  So if you want a photo with your family or some of your Overflo friends, just bring $6.50 for each one. That will be for a 5×7 print (which you’ll be able to pick up the following Thursday) and for an electronic image that will be suitable for sending via email, posting to Facebook/MySpace, etc.  That’s cool stuff!

7. Giving away (6) 727 LIVE Bibles to some students who’ve been memorizing scripture!

 Make sure you bring your family!  Don’t have any family to bring?  That’s okay, come and be part of the Overflo family!  Well, have a great week and we’ll se you Thursday!  Oh yeah, there’s 727 LIVE this Saturday too.  Heading into a 2 week mini-series “Prayed Up”!

To You and Your Family…

I hope you have a great week off from school!  Even better, I hope you have an awesome time hanging out family and friends at Thanksgiving!  There’s nothing better than spending the holidays together.  Be reminded during this season, there are a lot worse off people than you!  Be thankful for what God has given you!

The Finale’ and Turkey

Well, Monday is already here, but look on the bright side…next week at this time you are on Thanksgiving break!  I’ll bet you’re ready.  I’m ready for some down time myself while eating a ton of turkey!

But before you go on break, I want you to be a part of the series finale’ of “Bulls Eye Living” this Thursday at Overflo Student Night!  We’re gonna have some great music, a fun game or two, and a lot of laughs I’m sure!  I hope to see you there….
